[A poem by Mr. T.S.S. Murty titled ‘They Have Lived Their Life!’.]
[dropcap]S[/dropcap]ince times immemorial,
From birth to the eternal;
Our identity has been perpetually paternal;
With changing times, it could be maternal.
If we look at our each and every identity card,
It has our parent’s name bold and broad,
I don’t think it’s ever missing, I’m afraid,
If it is so, it’s an indefensible fraud.
It begins with the gaming called Naming,
Different stages of our taming and faming,
School, college, our job and our marriage,
The caring goes on until our kids are of some age.
When they are aged, retired and tired,
Isn’t that statement I heard from my Mom so weird,
When she was speaking over prone with my uncle,
“They have lived their life,”.. (my grandparents) with a chuckle?
People say “What goes around comes around,”
If it’s karma, always, pronounced and profound,
“Now that your parents are retired..” expressed my wife,
(Did she overhear my Mom?)”.. They have lived their life!”
